Apr 17 - May 31, 2009 :: 30 Years Old

Mahagoni showcase with toe- and figernails

This work is inspired by a novella the German writer Ingeborg Bachmann wrote, titled Das dreißigste Jahr: Facing his 30th birthday, the protagonist "suffers a painful urge to remember all his years".

Jinran Kim´s work shifts the urge to remember from mind to body: She preserves bodily waste such as clipped toe- and fingernals and presents them like a jeweller would do with the most expensive of his diamonds.

Sep 01 - Sep 18, 2008 :: Last Mattress - Series

The series includes 7 mattrasses or rather 7 reconstructions of mattrasses.

One of the mattrasses is the monk´s one, flanking the above mentioned temple. Like all other mattresses, this is the last one its respective owner used. Stained and smudgy, the mattresses preserve the most intimate traces of people, whose fame outlived them - the fame as monk, writer or artist. Shown also at gallery la condontion japonaise, Berlin till Aug 30

Aug 17 - Aug 31, 2008 :: 108 Stair Temple

The temple is a fragile wooden staircase, flanked by a monk's mattress and 9 feet high.

It was built for an old depot without any windows in trendy Berlin Prenzlauer Berg. The show in less trendy Berlin Neukölln transplants it into the broad daylight of a showcase. In Berlin Neukölln the temple loses its character as a sanctuary - it competes with temples of other religions and with the bustling wordliness of a district pursuing its gentrification.
